An Evening with Harriet Beecher Stowe

Please join us for a special all-ages Chautauqua event! Abolitionist and author Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896) is best known for her novel Uncle Tom's Cabin, depicting the harsh life for African Americans under slavery. Still read today, the story challenges reader to confront America's complicated past and connect it to today's issues. Stowe's passion for writing allowed her to publicly express her thoughts and beliefs in a time when a woman could not speak publicly, much less vote or hold public office. The author will be portrayed by actor/playwright Nan Colton, who specializes in bringing to life remarkable women of the past.

This free event, held at Carbon Valley Regional Library on August 3 at 6:30 pm, is held in conjunction with the annual High Plains Chautauqua series which takes place August 2-6 at the Aims Community College campus in Greeley.
